Multi-volume author, J.L. Higgs, introduces us to Dark Charity: Virginia McBride is a young socialite who is thrown into a world of murder and corruption. She needs to find out who is wanting her family dead while keeping herself alive and free from an arranged marriage. She uses humour to keep from sinking into depression and getting sucked into a world of darkness. The Spider Web, an international child abduction network, has other ideas. It wants to stop her at all costs before she can take control of the United Earth Charity - a charity with a knack for getting rid of obstacles by the roots and is the only ones that can stop them. It is a race against time and survival, wrapped up in a cloak of good will. I loved this book and this cover too. I love the cover for its simplicity and clarity, black and white is rather striking in a world of color. Looking down what appears to be an oddly shaped gun barrel is memorable, however the true meaning becomes clear in the story, it is a spider web. I really enjoyed the depth of characters provided by the first person POV. Starting with the main antagonist, we get a good sense of his insanity. The writing is engaging, scenes are well set. The plethora of secondary characters fill the story out quite well. I found the world built by J.L. Higgs to be interesting. The enjoyment factor is high. Dark Charity gets 4.9 stars! More good news, a sequel is in progress, “Escape From Darkness”! I can hardly wait! Great news! How does it continue the story begun in Dark Charity?

Escape from Darkness reveals what was really behind the murders of Ginny's parents and how the animosity between the Spider Web abduction network and the United Earth Charity all began. It runs at a different level of intrigue, leaving the answers to unfold with the last pages of the book.

It almost sounds like a prequel. Does the spotlight move from Ginny to someone else in the first book or does the focus introduce totally new characters? 12/18/2017 04:28:06 am
Writing something is a complicated way sometimes. When you have inspiration and convert your feelings into paper work is one thing. This is pleasant and easy. But when you need to write something on demand and you don't have any inspiration - this is absolutely another thing. When I come through such times I use help. I don't like to complicate my life and working process.

I wrote plots for this 6 book series during my first attempt at writing. The same with Earth's Guardians series although I don't have it in as much depth as UEC. There is no pressure on me except what I put on myself. I aim to put out two books per series each year.

"I'm very pleased with all your efforts. Twitter promotion and proofreading were beyond what I expected with a book review. Your suggestions throughout the process of refining both books helped me immensely. I look forward to working with you again." A.E.H Veenman “Dial QR for Murder” and “Prepped for the Kill”
