The Plantagenet Legacy Book 5

Multi-volume, multi-genre author, Mercedes Rochelle introduces us to the fifth volume in “The Plantagenet Legacy” series, “The Agincourt King”:
From the day he was crowned, Henry V was determined to prove the legitimacy of his house. His father's usurpation weighed heavily on his mind. Only a grand gesture would capture the respect of his own countrymen and the rest of Europe. He would follow in his great-grandfather Edward III's footsteps, and recover lost territory in France. Better yet, why not go for the crown? Poor, deranged Charles VI couldn't manage his own barons. The civil war between the Burgundians and Armagnacs was more of a threat to his country than the English, even after Henry laid siege to Harfleur. But once Harfleur had fallen, the French came to their senses and determined to block his path to Calais and destroy him. By the time the English reached Agincourt, they were starving, exhausted, and easy pickings. Or so the French thought. Little did they reckon on Henry's leadership and the stout-hearted English archers who proved, once again, that numbers didn't matter when God was on their side.

What a fabulous retelling of history! Mercedes has made me love historical fiction so much that it is my 3rd favorite genre, right after science fiction and fantasy.
She brings to life those pivotal events from long ago with richly detailed stories!
If you like biographies or history, her books give you the best of both worlds! Do yourself a favor and read all of her books!

Multi-genre, multi-volume author, Anna Casamento Arrigo introduces us to her book about a young girl comfortable in her identity, “My Mocha Skin”:
A beautiful story about a little girl who delights in the color of her skin. ‘My Mocha Skin,’ written from a child’s perspective, speaks about the beauty in all of the colors in the world and all its people. Told in a simple rhyming style, it shows how children — and adults — can derive happiness being who they are!

This story has such a lyrical flow to it. I loved it! The illustrations are delightful and are a perfect fit. The poetic cadence made it so easy to read.
While written for children, the lessons to be learned here apply to everyone.

The Palms by Clay Anderson

Multi-volume author, Clay Anderson introduces us to his latest novel, “The Palms”:
Sixty-eight-year-old Ronnie Wells has recently been paroled for a murder he committed thirty-six years ago. He lives in a run-down trailer park outside Pensacola, Florida. Daily life for Ronnie changes when he befriends Mary, the seven-year-old girl who lives next door with her mother, Clara, a drug-addicted prostitute. In Mary, Ronnie finds the daughter he never got to raise. Clara is reluctant to the friendship at first but soon realizes Ronnie is the only man she’s ever known who didn’t want to use her. To escape Joe, Clara’s violent pimp, Clara and Mary move in with Ronnie. With Ronnie’s help, Clara gets clean, but her past still haunts her. Her relapse kicks off the series of events that lead Joe to kidnap Mary, putting her in the hands of human traffickers. Ronnie must decide if he will return to his old, violent ways to save Mary.

Picture
Literary fiction is an interesting version of almost any genre. The writing is leisurely and permits more depth and texture in a story. Everything is more detailed and the emotions grow naturally.
The Palms is no exception and fits well within this genre.
Exploring the past of some of the characters provides a richly embroidered backdrop for their daily life and actions. The author captured the essence of his characters so well.
I love the story and the writing, however, only 4.5 stars from me because I am so picky about some things.
