Multi-genre author George Yuhasz introduces us to his action thriller, Righteous Allegiance:

I don't often find a well-built action story with deep characters and lots of texture in the settings and action. The author has pulled it off quite well.
The story is timely as White separatists or nationalists are in the news cycle more frequently and nearly always in a negative way. I feel some of their pain, but I don't agree with their methods.
If you are looking solely for a fast-paced action thriller, this book won't fill the bill. If you have never read a story like this then give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised by the difference.
I am committed to no spoilers, so I won't say more. Because I am picky about certain things, I award this book 4.7 stars.

I am an avid traveler. Through my career and leisure travel, I have visited 126 countries. I recently returned from a wildlife safari trip in Botswana, Zimbabwean, and Zambia. I can’t get enough of wild places and wild beings. Illness has kept me on the sidelines in the past eighteen months, so it felt wonderful to be back out in the world exploring again. Next up, I’m looking to Eastern Europe in the Fall, and hopefully some time in The Pantanal next Spring searching for jaguars.

Travel is fun and exciting! You have covered a lot of ground, literally. A person can learn so much about other people and themselves when traveling in areas away from their home. I had to search for "Pantanal"; such a large area! That will be an adventure of a lifetime.

I am retired. Writing has been a wonderful activity for me and I plan to continue creating stories as long as I can. I have no set schedule for writing and engage pretty much when the spirit moves me. My interests also include advocating for the natural world, movies, physical fitness, and travel, which I have already mentioned in this interview.

You sound pretty busy in retirement! I am too.

You are not alone in writing that way. Quite a few of the writers I have chatted with write when the muse speaks to them. Others write regularly and expect their muse to show up. Both are valid and it only matters what works for you.

My favorite genres to read for pleasure are historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. Writing has not changed the pleasure of reading for me at all. Every time I begin reading a new book, I feel like I am embarking on a new adventure. This feeling began during my childhood and endures to this day.

Your three favorite genres are mine also just in a different order. My three favorites are sci-fi, fantasy (a close second) and historical fiction. I am particularly intrigued by stories of time travel and stories with dragons.

You are fortunate, as many authors have told me their reading pleasure is somewhat diminished because they find themselves analyzing the writing of the story.

I learned to read before I entered the public school system in the first grade. I have loved reading ever since and have never stopped loving books.

I write because it provides me with an expressive outlet and I try to create stories that are meaningful, entertaining, and thought-provoking for my readers. It is very important to me that I give my best efforts and readers receive good value for the time they spend with my work.

Regarding journaling, I do like to chronicle my activities while traveling.

You are meeting those goals based on how much I enjoyed your story. Those ideals are important to me also.

I have tried journaling many times in the past and failed to maintain momentum after a few days. Now that I am retired and less subject to the clock I have been journaling for nearly two years.

Writing has changed my life dramatically. I am a very private person by nature and it proved to an asset throughout my career. However, writers/authors need to be involved with social media (Or they should if they want to become known) and interface with people on a greater scale. It was quite a shock to me how many people responded when I published my first book, a children's story. Folks literally came out of the woodwork. Since 2019 I have been blessed to have made so many good friends through social media and also through various public appearances, readings, book fairs, craft fairs, and the like. When I travel, writing seems to always come up in conversation because people want to know what your are doing in retirement. I have made many friends and good contacts along the way.

My past career as a U.S. Government intelligence officer, special agent, and contractor definitely has had an influence on my writing, sometimes in very unexpected ways. I wrote Imagine That: The Magic of the Mysterious Lights for my granddaughter. However, the book seemed to take on a life of its own through various awards and requests for interviews and public appearances. Writing the children's book took me to a place I had not been in a long time-a child's view of the world and the wonder of imagination. Writing this story gave me a lot of joy, even more so from the positive reactions of readers who read it.

Writing the novel, RIGHTEOUS ALLEGIANCE, was totally different. Based on many of my own personal and professional experiences, I found myself examining various aspects of my own life through introspection and experienced some measure of catharsis as well. In the process, I traveled along a spectrum of thought, emotion, and feelings that kept me unsettled as I wrote the story. This edge was very reminiscent of the professional edge I had to maintain throughout my career.

Children's books hold a special place in people's hearts. I am not surprised that your book was noticed by lots of people.

Many authors are private people, as you are. Writing the first draft of a book is a solitary venture as the story resides in your head and must get out to be enjoyed by others. Once the story is written down, the number of players should increase: beta readers, maybe a critique group, then an editor and finally a proofreader. It takes a small village to make the story as good and easy to read as possible.

What did you believe about writing in the past that you now know is false?

I used to believe you need a lot of leisure time to write effectively. I now know this is not the case. I often use smaller chunks of time in my day, sometimes as much as five minutes, to add something meaningful to a story I have been working on.

That is great! I bet there are a lot of writers who don't use those small chunks of time effectively.

It took me about two and a half years to write my first book, IMAGINE THAT: THE MAGIC OF THE MYSTERIOUS LIGHTS, a children's story. I have now written three books and hope to write many more.

The first book is quite a learning curve for most new authors. There is so much to learn about writing and the business of writing. For nearly every author writing is first an inspiration, after publication it becomes a business. Unless the writer has a lot of money to invest in the book, the writer is responsible for cover, marketing and promotion at the very least.
