MHoA Hunting For UFOs - Alaska                    Book 3 of the Monster Hunters of America series By D.A. Wysong

Multi-genre, multi-volume author, DA Wysong introduces us to the third volume in the Monster Hunters of America series, “Hunting For UFOs – Alaska”:
The Robertson family must go on when Carl Robertson goes missing after a routine flight to Plum Island, Deanna continues her covert field investigations for strange phenomena for the United States Government. While her youngest son Louis goes to Alaska to conduct research for UFOs and other strange anomalies. Upon his arrival to Alaska, Louis is not prepared for what strange encounters lie before him. Will he ever be the same?

Wysong continues exploring many of the mythical creatures and cryptids in North America. This book focuses on those found in Alaska and the possible connection with UFOs. She incorporates the wild parts of Alaska into her stories about hunting for UFOs and there are many witness anecdotes about UFOs in many parts of Alaska.
I enjoyed the story and will not give any spoilers here.
I am picky about some things and score 4.1 for mechanics.

Welcome back to the Word Refiner channel. I appreciate partnering with you to promote this next book in the series. We are going to resume our discussion from where we left off in the previous promotion for "Unleashed". The link for that promotion is just above.

First question.

What reality show, current or not, would you like to be on?

I have been told over the years that Ozzy Osbornes reality show had nothing over on me. So I’ll go with a guest appearance with Ozzy

I think I saw a few episodes of that show when my wife was watching. Ozzy's wife, Sharon, was a hoot. The kids seemed a bit strange to me, but I am not a celebrity or the child of a celebrity. I do believe you are the first to choose that show.

New question.

Are you an under-writer or an over-writer? When the first draft is done, do you need to add more to flesh it out or do you have to cut material because there is too much?

I definitely fine tune my final draft adding mainly dialogue. I have a large family with lots of quirks would align with Ozzy!

Dialogue is last. Every author has a different process as well as a unique voice they write with.

I think most families have quirks and unusual relationships in one way or another. Not many get paid to expose them to the world. Much of society is intrigued by fame and settle for a second- or third-hand experience.

New questions.

Have you ever used yourself as a starting point for a character in a story?

Would family or friends recognize you in the story?

Yes, as with most writers we blend certain aspects of ourselves into the characters we create. When I started writing the MHOA series I originally modeled the protagonist Deanna after myself. It ended up being set in Nazi Germany and this made the character complex and abstract.
The same applies to the main character in Soul Catcher; yes, those close to me can definitely see the connection!

That makes a lot of sense of sense to me. It takes good writing and careful observation to be certain that all of the characters don't sound like you.

New question.

Have you ever used other acquaintances as the basis for a character, to the point they have recognized themselves in your book or would you make certain they didn’t recognize themselves in the story?

In both my children's books as well as my Creeper Ceepers series I used many people that i know as characters in the books. I actually am working on a collaboration of one of my Creepers as an AI movie. It’s uncanny how much the AI generator has made the likeness of my grandson Truman and yes they know!

That AI generated movie sounds interesting. Please keep me informed about that.

New question.

Which is more fun to write, the protagonist or the antagonist, and why?

I have more experience writing more character driven protagonists, however in Soul Catchers & Doll Maker it was the Antagonist

I think many authors are similar in that they enjoy writing one character more than another and that can vary between the protagonist or the antagonist.

Whichever is the favorite at the moment it's important to not neglect the other characters. They have to come across as real, a mixture of good and bad as we all are. From the antagonist's point of view, he is the hero of his story and why does this other person keep getting in my way?

New questions.

Which is more important to a story pace or flow?

How do you control it?

For me it’s definitely the flow that is most important. I control the flow by only writing when my Muses call me to do so. Once I sit down to write the words just flow like a beautiful river.
I have never been one to sit methodically down to write at a certain time. I have never been one to determine a certain word count either.

That sounds like many other writers. Still others write daily and many outline or plot out key points and scenes of the story before writing it out and putting flesh on the bones.

I have not written a book, but I think I would lean toward the plotter side of the scale.

New questions.

Do you write in a straight line or do you write whatever the muse provides for you at a given moment?

Did your writing process change much from your early books to your current book or did it stay the same?

Yes, my writing process has changed drastically. One thing that remains the same is that I receive the title first and design the cover. With MHOA I wrote scattered and pulled it together in the end.

There is nothing wrong with writing out of order. I think it's a good idea and one way to avoid writer's block. Here is another copy-and-paste link by a client of mine, Rick Hall: http://www.wordrefiner.com/guest-blogs/non-linear-writing or hit the search box below.

New questions.

Now that your book is published, is there anything about it you would like to change?

What else are you writing these days?

I Love how the book ended and felt like it was productive in the storyline for MHOA. I since than Released book four Hunting For Dog Man & book five Hunting For the Rougarou was just released on December 7. I just started writing book 6 Hunting For Mermaids which will be coming in January 2025!

That is great productivity! Your fans will be so happy they don't have to wait to continue the series.

New questions.

What do you do to launch a new book when it is first published?

How long is the period of time for launching a book in your mind?

I actually started engaging with my readers on various SM platforms. In my FB stories I share regularly the upcoming books with updates. Also I share reels of various books as well. Usually I go hard and heavy one week before publication and one week afterwards. Then I move on to writing the next book. All five of my MHOA books are currently ranking in top #100 on Amazon!

That sounds like a good plan and it's working for you since your books are ranking high!

Many authors struggle to find their footing on social media. It takes time. When you are running your own business as an indie author you cannot afford to ignore SM. Keeping a good balance for all of the necessary activities is difficult.

Some authors utilize book blog tours to get the word out about their latest book. Here is a copy-and-paste link or hit the search block below: https://storyempirecom.wordpress.com/2022/05/04/mktg-14-book-blog-tours

New question.

Have you ever participated in a book blog tour, why or why not?

I have not participated in a blog tour due to not exploring the area. I will check out the link you provided thanks.

Some book bloggers participate and some don't. If you search for the term, I am certain you will find what you are looking for. I do have a list of book promoters, and book reviewers and bloggers on my Twitter page. Click on the three dots under the banner to find the lists. My lists include many other types of services for writers and authors. I hope you find the information useful.

New questions.

What kind of marketing has worked the best and the least for you for this book?

Speaking of marketing, why did you pick me to help promote your book?

I have not used any other marketing strategies other than what I mentioned earlier. My friend Craig recommended you thankfully.

Craig Crawford is a good guy and a client of mine also. I have promoted several of his books.

Last questions.

How do you think your book relates to the world we live in today?

What is the one thing you hope readers will remember from your book?

I like to think my books are being used to open peoples minds to truth that has been suppressed. I hope that my books are used to expand awareness to more possibilities in the unknown world.

That is a great goal. There is so much that we don't know.

Thank you, Debbie, for allowing me to help promote your book. I enjoyed reading the story. It creeped me out in a couple of places.

You have been a delightful guest again on the Word Refiner channel.

Until next time, keep on writing.
